Conditions such as gale force winds, rain, fog, ice or snow can seriously compromise ride enjoyment and group safety. Rides may be abandoned, re-routed or cancelled at short notice.
If weather conditions are poor at the advertised start time for a ride, the ride leader may elect to start the ride 1 hour later (e.g. 10:30) if conditions have improved sufficiently.
Please check with whoever is likely to be leading the ride under either of these circumstances.
If you have not ridden for a while you will have lost some fitness. Although rides go at the pace of the slowest rider, please be considerate to the regular riders by choosing a sensible ride distance in suitable conditions to start again. You can always just ride to coffee or choose one of the other rides to get your fitness back up.

Saturday Morning Road Ride (all year)

Rides start at:  8.45 am from Waitrose Car Park, Christchurch
or:  9.00 am at The Oak Inn, Burton

CBC's Saturday Morning Group Ride will start at 8.45 am from Waitrose Car Park and at 9.00 am from The Oak Inn, Burton, and ride to 'The Old Farmhouse Tearooms' in Burley, every Saturday morning throughout the year.

Our ride will wait at 'The Oak Inn' in Burton until 9.00 am, and will meet any riders there who don't wish to ride to Waitrose.  This is a sociable group ride for riders who want a slower pace (12 mph) than the main CTC ride's, who are thinking of joining the Club or just starting to ride with us.  Jed will show older teenagers the route.

This ride takes about 3 hours including the coffee stop.  It is a 20 mile round trip from Waitrose at Christchurch, and is 'on-road' all the way starting before the faster CTC Ride.   We ride in an anti-clockwise direction (the same way as the faster riders so watch out for them coming past you) to the 'New Forest Witches' village of Burley.  We have coffee at 'The Old Farmhouse Tearooms' in Burley with the other riders.

In heavy rain or bad weather rides may be cancelled or abandoned at short notice.  Please contact me for further information:

patricia.whiffen@talktalk.net          01425 270952          0771 441 8691

The Route

Group Bike Ride to Burley (3hrs incl coffee stop) - A slower paced 'on-road' group ride starting before the faster main CTC Saturday Ride (so watch out for faster riders going by) and going in an anti-clockwise direction to the 'New Forest Witches' village of Burley. We will be having coffee at "the Old Farmhouse" cafe in Burley with the masin CTC ride

Outward route: Up through Godwinscroft to South Holmsley and down Thorney Hill to Burley for coffee at the 'Old Farmhouse Tea Rooms'.
Return route:  Forest Road to Burley Street, down Charles Lane (or Crow Lane) and back to Waitrose via North Ripley, Sopley snd Burton.

2012 Saturday Morning Offroad Ride

The ride will start from Burton Green at 09:00 every other Saturday following the route below. This ride will be in addition to the CBC Saturday Morning Road Ride. The fortnightly dates are as follows:

TBA

Those members (or guests) wishing to take part should ride a suitable mount.
A mountain bike or trekking bike with robust wheels and tyres would be most suitable.
A road bike with lightweight tyres is not suitable.
You might get away with a touring bicycle with touring wheels and robust tyres (28mm +).

The Route

Trekking Bike Ride to Holmsley (3hrs) - A gently paced and picturesque group ride combining a mix of 'on and off-road'.  Outward route: On-road via the hamlets of Waterditch, Neacroft, Holmsley South to Heathfield and then on to the New Forest Cycle Tracks near the Holmsley Campsite to Holmsley Passage Lane.  Continue on-road to Holmsley Gate (former level crossing) the Castleman Trailway Cycle Track to 'Holmsley Old Station Tea Rooms'.  Return route: Off-road via the Castleman Trailway Cycle Track to Holmsley Gate (former level crossing) and its continuation to Burbush Hill Car Park, Pound Lane, near Burley.  Continue on-road via Thorney Hill, Avon Tyrrell, Braggers Wood, Shirley, Ripley, Winkton-Holfleet and South Bockhampton to Burton Green.

2012 Public Holiday Rides & Special Rides TBA

Rides will be arranged for Public Holidays in 2012.
There will also be some special rides arranged (e.g. CBC Anniversary Ride, Six Ferries ride).

Tuesday Evening Rides 2010

Will start again on 17th April 2012

Every Tuesday at 19:00 (until the end of August)

Meet in Sainsbury's (Christchurch by-pass) car park east corner (opposite the Shell garage) for various routes of 15 to 25 miles / 1 to 2 hours

The pace/ distance/ duration of the ride will be dependent upon availabilty of light over the summer but in any case will be to suit whoever turns up on the evening.

I may not always be able to lead the ride and I will be looking for volunteers!

Please bring lights just in case of any unforseen delay on the ride.

If it is raining hard or very windy please call me (Stephen Gray on 07710 201358) to check if the ride is going ahead.
